When I was re-watching the Indiana Jones trilogy in preparation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I discovered something I never noticed before - Dan Aykroyd.
That’s right, the SNL star turned Ghostbuster has a very small cameo in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Unlike Raiders and Last Crusade, I had only seen the film once or twice since I was a kid, which might explain how I passed him by. The 18-second cameo is easy to miss and comes just after the conclusion of the car chase with Lao Che’s men in the film’s opening sequence. Aykroyd plays a character named “Weber”, who sports a mustache and an even worse fake British accent. He explains to Indy that he’s arranged for last minute transportation just before Jones, Short Round and Willie board the plane. Turns out that Aykroyd was friends with Spielberg, going back to working on 1941.

Even harder to spot is the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos of George Lucas, Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy, and Steven Spielberg as a group of missionaries in the background of the same airport scene.
The newspaper clipping below shows the group in costume wearing long black cassocks and tropical helmets.

Two new photos from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince have appeared online. My guess is the above photo comes (spoiler warning) right after the major death or the breakup.

Official Plot Synopsis: Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simpering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.
Thanks to our friends at the Spanish Harry Potter fansite Blogwarts for passing this along.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theaters on November 21st 2008.

The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In our first episode, Dave, Devindra, Adam, Dave3, and Peter discuss the difficulty of following comic books, the possibility of The Runaways on film and the ethics of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Neil from Filmschoolrejects also joins us to assert that not all bloggers live in their parents’ basements.
Join us on Monday night when we review RAMBO (NOT The Strangers), which was just released on DVD May 27, 2008. We’ll also give our detailed impressions on the Lost season finale. If you have any feedback/questions/comments/complaints, feel free to contact us at slashfilmcast@gmail.com.

This Comedy.com clip about Sex and the City pretty much sums up why this movie is going to be a success. It gives voice to all the things we have said about it here.
Chronological errors however, the guy in the board room was supposed to be from 2 years ago and he references girly shows and movies that didn’t exist 2 years ago. I know because I watch all of those shows with my wife. For the same reasons he says.

Thought Slashfilm had let this one get past us, did you? No way! Like a freshly charged cougar stashing away a coveted Von Dutch trucker hat (and an STD) at the mall, we were saving it for the weekend. Platinum Dunes is teaming up with Hasbro to bring the board game, Ouija Board, to so many theaters you won’t escape it! Michael Bay is involved in a producing capacity, so don’t count out day-glo Rasta phantasms with Uzis just yet. Gotta love how the trades are all, “no log line has been announced.” But they partially redeem themselves by reporting that the film will “not be like Jumanji.”
The flick will be the first in Hasbro’s major development deal at Universal, where games like Candy Land and Clue (again) are also being adapted. If there’s slight confusion sloshing against mental reference, this is not a remake of Witchboard; moreover, isn’t it sort of strange how there’s not a definitive Ouija Board movie? A lot of geeks are bemoaning the film already, but the potential for fun brain cell death glazed in Platinum Dunes’ slick aesthetic sits well with me. Others have pointed out that due to Hasbro’s involvement a PG-13 rating is probably in the cards. This is further supported by the attached screenwriter, David Berenbaum (Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, Elf). Unless IMDB is mistaken, Ouija Board would then mark PD’s first non-R outing. Maybe the geeks have a point, but the film is sure to be worthier of a popcorn throw than Prom Night.

The neighbors of the Transformers 2 Bethlehem Steel movie set have gotten a letter from the location manager warning them of, among other things, “large scale pyrotechnics”. Yes that’s right folks… As expected, Michael Bay will be blowing more shit up in the Transformers sequel, beginning next week (Not that anyone was expecting anything less…). You can complain all you want about Michael Bay, but one thing you can’t deny is that he knows how to blow shit up (see the awesome highlight video from last year). Thanks for /Film reader Ironhide for e-mailing us a scan of the letter, which also gives us a look at the film’s in-production logo. Simple but very cool. Phone numbers have been blurred to protect the production team from prank calls. Click below to enlarge.

It appears that The Weinstein Co has brought director Kyle Newman back on board to make the final cut of Fanboys. The New York Times ran a story a couple weeks back about Microsoft. Newman worked on a short film / advertisement for the Redmond-based software company. Apparently no one in the movie sector read the article because buried somewhere in the advertising section. Thankfully /Film reader Iron Monger spotted it, because hidden inside the article was a one-line quote from Kyle himself:
“I have been brought back into the editing room to work on a final version,” Kyle said. “All the key people are back. That’s all good.”
So there you have it. It appears that Kyle Newman has officially returned to work on a final version of the film. No word on if the movie will get a theatrical release or go direct-to-dvd. Although if I were The Weinstein Co, I’d at least test the waters with a limited theatrical release. A fanbase is certainly there, but can TWC convince them to see it after all the shit they pulled?

This has to be one of the coolest t-shirt designs I’ve seen in a while. Aritst Kevin Ross wondered What if E.T. had been an Alien from the movie Alien? The result is the “Eliot’s New Friend” T-shirt from Go Ape Shirts. Available for $18 in sizes ranging from Small to XXL. Screen printed on a black American Apparel tees (so you may want to order up a size).
